1.  Locate the assisted living or retirement home you would like to visit. If you would like suggestions or need help finding one in your area, please email us at info@dignitea.net .

 

2. Get organized before reaching out. Have your calendar handy so that you will know when you are free to volunteer, in addition to having a pen and paper to write down information.

 

3. Reach out.  Here's a sample script for when you call-  "Hello, my name is _____ and I am looking to spread the joy this holiday season and would like to volunteer at (name of the retirement home). Can you help me contact the volunteer coordinator please?".  (They will either give you a name and phone number or they will offer to connect you directly to the coordinator.)

 

4. Coordinate your volunteer date(s). Contact the volunteer coordinator.  A sample script- "hello, my name is _____ and I would like to volunteer at (name of retirement home)." They will be happy for your help and will guide you through what to do next.

 

*Occasionally homes will require a longer commitment than you're able to accommodate, or won't be accepting new volunteers at that time.  Please don't be discouraged and try somewhere else!

*Remember that politeness and kindness always go a long way.  Use this experience to brighten the day of everyone you come into contact with.
